Imperial Logistics Wins Logistics Achiever Enviro Award
Johannesburg, South Africa, 20 October 2009 - Imperial Logistics today announced that it has won a Logistics Achiever Enviro Award for its 'contribution to environmental initiatives for the research and analysis of transport environmental issues' at the Logistics Achiever Awards.
Logistics News hosted the 21st Annual Logistics Achiever Awards on 15 October 2009 and once again recognised outstanding performers for professionalism and excellence in the effective application of strategic, tactical and operational logistics and supply chain management principles, concepts and practices in southern Africa. The objectives of the Logistics Achiever Awards are to encourage companies to review, upgrade and develop its current logistics and supply chain management practices and to create greater awareness of the value of effective supply chain management.
In addition to existing categories, the Logistics Achiever Awards introduced the Enviro Awards this year highlighting successful green initiatives and developments that have a significant environmental impact.
Imperial Logistics was recognised for its initiative to reduce 'empty miles' and carbon emissions related to fuel consumption in its distribution activities for Woolworths. Imperial Logistics in conjunction with Cardiff University, Fast 'n Fresh, CSIR and Woolworths focused on the research of uncertainties throughout the supply chain with a view of understanding the implications that these uncertainties have on both economic and environmental levels. This determined the most efficient and effective logistical solution for Woolworths. In the words of Barry Saxton, Head of the Logistics Achiever Awards' Judging Committee: "The Imperial Logistics' initiative and research set a standard for others to follow. As the move towards environmentally friendly issues is becoming pertinent, we will be seeing a lot more of these issues in future. It's a worthwhile cause in order to continue and be competitive globally".
"We are very proud to have received an Enviro Logistics Achiever Awards in the first year of its introduction. We thank the judges for recognising the value added benefits of the Imperial Logistics initiative. This is the result of our focus on continuous improvement and excellent team work within Imperial Logistics and with its business partners. We want to thank Woolworths for its cooperation and support from a customer's perspective. Together we make things happen", says Abrie de Swardt, Marketing Director, Imperial Logistics.
