Opening doors for career advancement
IMPERIAL Logistics is a preferred employer of choice and has been recognised in the industry for outstanding performance on this front. Awards and acknowledgements include a Supply Chain Education Excellence Award from SAPICS (2010 and 2009) and Ministry of Labour Good Practice in Skills Development Award (2008).
Since 2006, the IMPERIAL Logistics Graduate Development Programme has advanced skills in the logistics and supply chain management industry. Between 2008 and 2010, the Programme accommodated approximately 120 graduates, which in turn has increased IMPERIAL Logistics’ management and leadership capacity, while addressing succession planning and transformation objectives.
Graduates are recruited annually from tertiary institutions in the disciplines of Logistics, Cost and Management Accounting (CIMA), Industrial Engineering and Information Technology, for participation in a structured Graduate Development Programme. Graduates exit the programme at first line or middle management level or in specialist positions. The programme is underpinned by a mentoring scheme.
IMPERIAL Logistics participates in the Annual Graduate Programmes of the following tertiary institutions:
- University of Johannesburg (UJ)
- University of Pretoria (UP)
- Witwatersrand University (WITS)
- University of North West (UNW)
- University of Kwa Zulu Natal (UKZN)
- University of Stellenbosch (USB)
- University of Cape Town (UCT)
Participation includes advertising via campus publications and internal career portals, presentations to students, participation in career exhibitions, etc.
Student Projects
IMPERIAL Logistics assists tertiary students by providing practical experience in the form of real-life commercial projects, guided by experienced staff members. The projects provide students with exposure across a vast number of industries. This is a true “win/win” as students, including those that don’t participate in the projects directly, become aware of IMPERIAL Logistics as a potential employer. It is anticipated that this initiative will be broadened to include more students, also from other disciplines.
Bursaries
Supporting our future professionals, we offer academic bursaries to students from designated groups, studying towards degrees in the disciplines listed below.
- Logistics / Supply Chain Management
- Industrial Engineering
- Financial Management (CIMA)
The bursaries are available from the second year onwards and are based on academic performance. The assumption is that bursary students will eventually feed into the graduate development programme, as it is a means to identify suitable employees early on in their progression towards fulltime employment. Bursary students are also deployed for vacation work to ensure that cognisance is taken of where in the organisation these individuals would fit in best, should they eventually become part of the Graduate Recruitment Programme.
