IMPERIAL Logistics is one of three divisions within the IMPERIAL Holdings Group and the leading logistics and supply chain management company in Southern Africa. Since 2001, the company has driven various Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. Some of these programmes are linked to the services that the company provides. IMPERIAL Logistics focuses amongst others on initiatives to ensure the health and safety of its own drivers and provides extensive support to HIV/AIDS projects in partnership with the Road Freight Association (RFA) and the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight industry. Above and beyond the industry, IMPERIAL Logistics is also involved in HIV/AIDS educational projects, as well as care and support for people affected by the disease.

Furthermore, in collaboration with the IMPERIAL and Ukhamba Community Development Trust, IMPERIAL Logistics supports educational and development projects on an ad-hoc basis.

The IMPERIAL and Ukhamba Community Development Trust was established in 2004 and has since build relationships with a number of primary and secondary schools in disadvantaged communities in Gauteng. The Trust continuously assesses the needs and requirements of the schools and identifies opportunities for support and development.

Through its activities, the IMPERIAL and Ukhamba Community Development Trust has built a unique relationship with Finetown Primary School where both parties work together in the continuous development of the school and its educational facilities. Finetown Primary School is situated in Finetown near the Grasmere Toll Plaza and provides education to more than 1200 students.

In 2007 the Trust identified the need for additional classrooms at Finetown Primary School and IMPERIAL Logistics became involved in the project by donating a container in April 2008. The container was remodelled into a Grade R classroom and installed on the grounds of the school. The container classroom allows for separated, undercover and enclosed space for the education of half of the 85 Grade R students, who previously were accommodated in one classroom. Having additional space of their own, the Grade R students can receive un-interrupted attention from teachers and improved education focused on their specific needs.

The IMPERIAL and Ukhamba Development Trust is also involved in providing all the adopted schools with textbooks, reading books, teaching aids, teacher training workshops and the establishment of resource and library centres. When funds become available the Trust also assists schools with building projects and sporting facilities.
