History of Business
Tanker Services was formed in 1959 and in 1992, became part of Imperial Logistics as a member company within its Specialised Freight division. In 2006, Tanker Services was divided into three specialist operating divisions, namely Tanker Services Food & Chemicals, Tanker Services Fuel & Gas.

Tanker Services Food & Chemicals

Core Business
Tanker Services Food & Chemicals provides transportation of liquid and dry bulk products, including solvents, resins, chemicals, glucose, milk vegetable oils, wine, potable alcohol, various beverages and sugar, throughout South Africa. Tanker Services can handle any product suitable for a washable tanker with the aim of sourcing backloads to minimise ‘dead’ kilometers.
Through its extensive distribution network, the company is renowned for its ability to secure backloads from Johannesburg to Cape Town, Durban, the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga.

Key Strengths
This specialist Tanker Services division has the ability to secure backloads from various regions, and the ability to react quickly to new business opportunities. With washbays in every region, vehicles are washed and cleaned after every delivery, enabling backloads. Through a good network regular backloads for customers can be secured.

Geographical Representation
Tanker Services Food & Chemicals delivers logistics services throughout South Africa with depots in Germiston, Durban and Cape Town. All depots are equipped with high quality washbays and workshops, that service the company’s fleet of 235 trucks and also a fleet of logistics service providers (LSPs) ranging between 5 and 20 vehicles at any given time. 

Tanker Services Fuel & Gas

Core Business
Tanker Services Fuel & Gas provides road transportation, both primary and secondary of bulk fuel and gas products. This division of Tanker Services has extensive experience in the movement of bulk petroleum fuels and bulk liquid gas products, across southern Africa. Its depot network and infrastructure has been optimised to ensure coverage of all the major routes in South Africa.

Tanker Services Specialised Products

Core Business

Tanker Services Specialised Products provides specialised bulk road transport to customers in the industrial chemicals, industrial powders, cementitious and platinum metals markets. Annually they move huge volumes of various acids, anhydrous ammonia, cement, chlorine, fly ash, lime, molten sulphur, sodium cyanide, and such like across southern Africa and as far north as Malawi. Due to the hazardous nature of the products conveyed, safety is of vital importance and most of the tankers in the fleet are dedicated and product specific

Did you Know?
On 13 December 2011 the International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) announced that Specialised Products was certified under the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC) as an official cyanide transporter. Out of a total of 68 internationally-certified cyanide transporters; only 12 are located in Africa. Specialised Products is the only ICMI-accredited transporter in southern Africa.

Tanker Services is renowned for its technical innovation and in the past few years Specialised Products has successfully introduced newly-designed ammonium nitrate porous prill and hydrochloric acid tankers to the market .

Geographical Representation
Specialised Products’ head office is situated at Greenhills in Germiston and it operates from seven strategically-located depots in Kroondal, Lichtenburg, Mobeni, Greenhills, Richards Bay, Stikland and Vanderbijlpark giving it the infrastructure and flexibility to respond to industry and customer requirements. Specialised Products has adjusted its national footprint to adapt to on-going market changes. Its depots are aligned to its major customers and their production facilities; and this drives efficiencies by reducing dead kilometres travelled thereby increasing fleet productivity.
